U‑POL® SYSTEM 20 UP2253 High‑Build 2K Multi‑Purpose Primer is a 1 gal gray primer formulated for direct‑to‑metal (DTM) applications. It is supplied as a two‑component system with a 4 : 1 mix ratio and is intended for high‑build coating sequences where a robust, adhesive base is required.
The primer delivers high‑build coverage in 1–2 coats on a wide range of substrates, including aluminum, e‑coat, fiberglass, galvanized steel, plastics, polyester, and SMC. It provides a VOC rating of 400 g/L and is compatible with the hardener selection table for optimal cure under the specified application temperature range. The system’s flash point is 28 °C, indicating careful temperature control during mixing and application.
Handling requires full PPE: eye protection, chemical‑resistant gloves, protective clothing, and a respirator. Use in a well‑ventilated area and follow the listed H‑statements (e.g., H225, H226, H304) to mitigate acute toxicity, flammability, and respiratory hazards.

How to Use
Bare Metal, GRP, SMC, Fiberglass, Polyester Filler, OEM, Properly Prepared Aluminum and Galvanized
- Prepare the substrate by removing all rust, old paint, and contaminants. Ensure the surface is dry, clean, and free of oil, wax, or silicone. Acceptable substrates include aluminum, e‑coat, fiberglass, galvanized metal, plastic, polyester, existing primer, SMC, and steel.
- Select the appropriate hardener for the ambient temperature (see the hardener selection table). Mix the primer and hardener at a 4 : 1 volume ratio (primer : hardener). Stir until a uniform, lump‑free mixture is achieved.
- Apply the mixed primer using spray equipment. Apply 1 – 2 coats to achieve the required build, overlapping each pass by approximately 50 %.
- Allow each coat to flash and dry as specified by the selected hardener’s flash time and cure schedule (refer to the hardener selection table for exact times). Do not exceed the recommended maximum coat thickness per pass.
- Clean all spray equipment and tools with a suitable solvent or cleaner immediately after use.
