3M™ Platinum™ Plus for DMS is a body repair material for use as part of the 3M™ Dynamic Mixing System. When used with the 3M™ Dynamic Mixing System, this 2-component filler significantly reduces the occurrence of pinholes while also mixing to a perfect ratio.
3M Platinum Plus Body Filler (05863) is a high-performance, gold-colored paste designed for structural repairs and surface preparation on automotive panels. Formulated with an adhesion-promoted base, it bonds to a wide range of substrates including steel, aluminum, fiberglass, FRP, galvanized metal, wood, concrete, e-coat, polyester, SMC, and more.
The filler offers a work time of 3-4 minutes and a sandable window of 8-10 minutes when applied at or above the minimum temperature of 60 °F (15 °C). This rapid flash time enables fast turnaround in body shop environments while providing sufficient working time for shaping and feathering. The cartridge format delivers consistent mix ratio without additional measuring.
Safety handling requires full PPE: eye protection, chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing, and a respirator in well-ventilated areas. Application Guide
- Clean the target substrate (aluminum, steel, wood, etc.) of all grease, oil, rust, and loose material; ensure it is dry and at least 60 °F (15 °C).
- Dispense the filler from the cartridge; no mixing ratio is required because the formulation is pre-blended. Work within the 3-4 minute work window.
- Apply a uniform coat with a spreader or putty knife, shaping to fill defects. Allow 8-10 minutes for the surface to become sandable.
- If additional build-up is needed, repeat step 3 after the previous layer has reached sandable hardness; each subsequent coat follows the same 8-10 minute sandable time.
- Sand the cured filler with appropriate grit, then clean the area before proceeding to primer or paint. Dispose of used tools in a compatible solvent according to local regulations.
