Self etching 1K primer is a ready to use one component metal etching primer. It provides excellent protection against corrosion to bare metal, thereby eliminating the need for metal conditioning. Recommended for use to treat bare metal or for application under primer surfaces.
TRANSTAR® 6193 is a self-etching, one-component primer supplied in a 20 oz aerosol can. It is formulated for rapid adhesion promotion on bare metal surfaces before topcoat application, making it ideal for repair work on aluminum, steel, galvanized steel, e-coat, fiberglass and existing primers.
The ready-to-spray formulation eliminates mixing errors and provides up to five days of pot life when stored at 70 °C and 50 % RH. Flash time is fast-dry to touch in approximately 15 minutes, allowing subsequent coats to be applied without delay. VOC content is 5.51 lb/gal (661 g/L), and the product maintains a one-year shelf life when unopened.
Because the primer is classified with multiple GHS hazards (acute toxicity, carcinogen, flammable, etc.), use requires eye protection, gloves, protective clothing and a respirator in a well-ventilated area. Follow standard first-aid procedures for inhalation, skin contact, eye exposure, and ingestion as outlined on the SDS.

Application Guide
- Clean the substrate thoroughly-remove oil, grease, rust, and loose material before priming.
- The product is a ready-to-spray formulation; no mixing ratio is required. Once opened, it retains usable life for up to 5 days when stored at 70 °C and 50 % RH.
- Apply with steady, even strokes using an aerosol spray gun. One uniform coat is typically sufficient on compatible substrates (aluminum, bare metal, e-coat, fiberglass, galvanized steel, existing primer).
- Allow the primer to become dry to touch for approximately 15 minutes before handling or applying subsequent coats.
- If cleanup is needed, wipe tools and overspray with a solvent compatible with 5.51 lb/gal VOC content (e.g., mineral spirits) while the material remains wet; otherwise dispose of the empty can according to local regulations.
