U-POL UP0789 WELD#2 Weld-Through Primer is a metallic-silver, high-solids primer designed for weld-through applications on repaired panels. It provides immediate corrosion protection and promotes adhesion of subsequent coating systems on automotive structures.
The 450 mL can cover up to 53.8 sq-ft per coat when applied at the recommended temperature of 68 °F. One to two coats are typical, with an air-dry time of 10-20 minutes, allowing rapid turnaround in a body shop environment. The formulation is compatible with aluminum, galvanized steel and previously primed substrates, making it suitable for mixed-metal repairs.
Due to its hazardous classification (acute toxicity, carcinogen, flammable, etc.), the primer must be applied with full PPE: eye protection, chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing and a respirator. Ensure adequate ventilation and follow all H-statements on the SDS during use.

How to Use
For direct to metal, aluminum, galvanized steel
- Verify ambient temperature is at least 68 °F (20 °C) before starting.
- Clean the compatible substrate (aluminum, galvanized metal, or previously primed surface) to remove oil, grease, and loose material; ensure it is dry.
- Apply a uniform coat of Weld-Through Primer using spray equipment. One coat may be sufficient for light coverage; apply a second coat if required for full opacity.
- Allow the primer to air-dry 10-20 minutes between coats or before handling.
- If a second coat is applied, repeat step 3 and allow an additional 10-20 minutes air dry before proceeding to topcoat or finish work.
