Built for the job.
3M™ SMC/Fiberglass repair adhesives are two-part urethanes or two-part epoxies used to bond backup strips to SMC (sheet molded compound), FRP (traditional fiberglass) and primed metal. Our adhesives provide a full range of hardness, flexibility and worktimes for jobs such as reinforcing the backside of plastic…
3M 08274 is a two-part, viscous liquid repair adhesive supplied in a 400 mL dual cartridge. It is designed for structural repairs and filler applications where high strength and durability are required, such as panel bonding, spot welding reinforcement, and filling deep gouges.
The formulation provides a work time of 20 minutes and a sandable window of up to 4 hours, allowing ample handling before finishing. VOC content is measured at 816 g/L (6.8 lb/gal). It bonds to a broad range of substrates including ABS, aluminum, bare metal, e-coat, fiberglass, FRP, galvanized steel, plastic, polyester, SMC and standard steel, making it suitable for most body shop projects.
Use in a well-ventilated area with appropriate PPE: safety glasses or face shield, chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing, and a respirator as required by the SDS. The adhesive has a flash point of 110 °C (closed cup) and carries acute toxicity, aspiration hazard, carcinogenicity, eye damage, organ toxicity, oxidizer, reproductive and respiratory hazards.
Why Pros Choose 3M 2-Part
- Two-part urethane or two-part epoxy adhesives effectively bond rigid plastic
- Commonly used to bond backup strips to SMC and FRP (traditional fiberglass)
- Frequently used for backside reinforcement repair on a variety of plastic components
- Adhesive offers excellent sag resistance
- A range of work times allows for maximum efficiency on specific jobs
- A high-performance two component urethane adhesive with excellent sag resistance
How to Use
For backside reinforcement repair on a variety of plastic components
- Clean the substrate and remove all contaminants; ensure surfaces such as ABS, aluminum, bare metal, e-coat, fiberglass, FRP, galvanized steel, plastic, polyester, SMC, or steel are dry and free of oil, grease, and loose material.
- Mix the two parts in a 1:1 ratio by weight. After mixing, the adhesive has a work time (pot life) of approximately 20 minutes.
- Apply the mixed adhesive with a brush or spatula to the prepared area. Build up as needed; multiple coats may be applied after the previous coat reaches sandable condition.
- Allow each coat to become sandable for up to 4 hours before sanding or applying additional layers.
