2K urethane chip guard is a job sized, two component, shake and shoot, textured coating for reproducing a variety of OE textures and chip guards. Two component system helps eliminate common problems seen with one component products such as long flash times, pinholes, solvent trap, delamination and solubility.
The SEM 52000 2K Urethane Chip Guard Kit is a two-component urethane coating designed for protecting body panels from chip and scratch damage during the finishing process. It is applied as a clear, sacrificial layer over base coats before polishing or final topcoat application.
Key technical features include a flash time range of 0-20 minutes, allowing rapid handling in high-throughput shops, and compatibility with a broad spectrum of substrates such as ABS, aluminum, bare metal, e-coat, fiberglass, FRP, galvanized steel, OEM plastics, polyester, primer, SMC, and standard steel. The system can be built up in 1-3 coats for the required level of protection; coverage details are provided on panel 9 of the technical data sheet. VOC emissions are limited to a maximum of 1.63 lb/gal (196 g/L), supporting compliance with environmental regulations.
When mixing and applying, use appropriate personal protective equipment-including nitrile gloves, chemical-resistant goggles, and a particulate respirator if ventilation is inadequate. Ensure adequate airflow in the work area to maintain safe VOC levels.

Application Guide
- Ensure the substrate is one of the compatible materials (e.g., ABS, aluminum, bare metal, e-coat, fiberglass, FRP, galvanized steel, OEM plastic, polyester, primer, SMC, or steel) and clean it of all contaminants.
- Apply the 2K urethane chip guard in a single pass; one to three coats may be applied as required for coverage.
- Observe flash time of 0-20 minutes between coats; allow each coat to reach flash before applying the next.
- While the final coat is still wet, remove all masking tape. Clean any excess material according to standard shop procedures.
