3M 05861 Dry Guide Coat is a dark-gray powder coating designed for use as a base layer in automotive refinishing systems. It provides a uniform, high-contrast guide surface that assists technicians in achieving consistent color matching and clearcoat thickness control on repaired panels.
The dry guide coat can be applied to a wide range of substrates-including ABS, aluminum, bare metal, e-coat, fiberglass, FRP, galvanized steel, OEM plastics, primer, SMC and standard steel-allowing flexibility across body shop projects. Typical application requires 10-13 coats to achieve full coverage, delivering a durable base that resists abrasion during subsequent sanding and clearcoat operations.
Because the product contains acute toxicity, carcinogenic, and aquatic hazards (CAS 1317-65-3, 1333-86-4), use with appropriate personal protective equipment-eye protection, protective clothing, and a respirator-and ensure adequate ventilation.
