Built for the job.
Our 3Mβ’ Panel bonding adhesive is a cost-effective two-part epoxy adhesive for bonding replacement body panels. From its fast, convenient cartridge system the adhesive seals and bonds steel, aluminum, SMC, and FRP securely in a single operation.
3M 08116 is a two-part panel bonding adhesive supplied in a 200 mL duo-syringe cartridge. It is formulated for high-strength structural bonds on panels and repair sections, particularly where a viscous, gap-filling formulation is required.
The system offers a work time of 90-120 minutes and reaches full cure within 24 hours at ambient temperature, providing reliable strength for aluminum, steel, fiberglass, FRP, OEM plastics, primers, SMC and other bare metal substrates. Its low viscosity allows complete wet-out in complex joint geometries while maintaining excellent shear resistance.
Handling requires standard PPE: eye protection, chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing and a respirator when ventilation is inadequate. Follow the SDS recommendations for acute toxicity, aspiration hazard, skin corrosion and respiratory protection during mixing and application.
Why Pros Choose 3M 2-Part
- A high-performance two component epoxy adhesive bonds a variety of steel, aluminum, SMC and FRP (traditional fiberglass) non-structural components
- Bonds outer body panels to reduce welding and riveting time
- Corrosion inhibiting formula protects work for long-lasting results
- Has excellent shelf life opened or unopened, reducing unused product replacement costs
- Can be spot welded through or used in conjunction with rivets for added reinforcement
- Heat accelerated curing affords long work times and reduces cycle time
- Also use to reinforce welded or riveted structural components
- Product has corrosion inhibiting formula
How to Use
For door hem flanges, door skins, floor pans, metal bonding and metal to composite bonding
- Clean the substrate thoroughly to remove oil, grease, dust, or loose material; ensure a dry, contaminant-free surface.
- Mix the two parts of the adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions (typically 1:1 by volume). Use immediately; work time is 90-120 minutes.
- Apply a uniform bead of mixed adhesive to one substrate using a suitable applicator. Press the panels together and hold until the initial set is achieved.
- Maintain joint pressure for the remainder of the work time (up to 120 minutes) to allow full development of bond strength.
- Allow the assembly to cure for at least 24 hours before subjecting it to service loads or further handling.
