3M 08223 is a two-part universal adhesive supplied in a 200 mL dual-syringe cartridge. Formulated as a paste in black, it is intended for rapid bonding of composite and plastic substrates such as FRP, polyester, SMC, and primed surfaces in automotive body repair.
The system offers a work time of 3 minutes and reaches full cure in approximately 4 hours at standard conditions, providing fast flash time while allowing sufficient repositioning. Its 1 to 1.2 mix ratio delivers consistent fill and strong adhesion across the listed substrates without additional primers.
Due to its acute toxicity, carcinogenicity, and flammability hazards, use requires eye protection, chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing, and a respirator in a well-ventilated area. Application Guide
- Clean and dry the substrate (FRP, plastic, polyester, primer, SMC) to remove dust, oil, and moisture.
- Mix the two components in a 1 : 1.2 ratio by weight; stir until a uniform paste is achieved. The mixed adhesive has a pot life of approximately 3 minutes.
- Apply a continuous bead of the mixed paste to the prepared surface using a suitable applicator. Do not exceed one coat per joint.
- Allow the adhesive to set for the specified work time, then let it cure undisturbed for 4 hours before handling or applying load.
