3M 08578 Strip-Calk is a high-performance, paintable paste sealant supplied in a 1-ft L-box. It is designed for automotive body repair applications where reliable seam sealing and subsequent topcoat compatibility are required.
The formulation offers excellent sprayability and can be applied up to ten coats on a wide range of substrates, including ABS, aluminum, fiberglass, FRP, OEM plastics, primer, SMC, steel, and wood. Its consistent flow and film-forming properties ensure uniform coverage for complex panel joints.
Use requires standard personal protective equipment: chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing, and a respirator due to acute toxicity, aspiration hazard, and skin/eye corrosivity. Adequate ventilation is essential during application and sanding.

How to Use
For joint filling, trunk seams, voids and gaps
- Clean the substrate thoroughly and ensure it is dry; remove all contaminants such as oil, grease, and loose material.
- Apply Strip-Calk using a spray gun or compatible dispensing equipment to achieve even coverage.
- Build up the sealant in multiple passes, applying up to 10 coats as required for the joint geometry and service conditions.
- Allow each coat to flash and cure according to the material's normal drying characteristics before applying the next coat.
