Where to find the paint code on a Ford

The paint code is on the Safety Compliance Certification Label on the driver's door jamb. On some Fords it is on the edge of the door.

Look for EXT PNT: the two characters after it are the paint code. YZ is Oxford White, UX Ingot Silver, PQ Race Red. Older Fords may print more characters.

Lost the label? Ford says a dealer can order a replacement for a vehicle up to five model years old.

The VIN does not contain the paint code, but a Ford dealer can look the code up from it. Can't find the label? The finder lists every Ford color by year and model.

Why do Ford tri-coat colors come as two cans?

A tri-coat gets its depth from two separate components: a color basecoat, then a translucent pearl mid-coat sprayed over it. They can't be combined in one can, so we supply both, each mixed for your exact code, and you finish with clear. How much paint do I need?
