How accurate is the match to my factory color?

We mix to the manufacturer's formula for your exact paint code β€” the same standard body shops use β€” and spray-out test every batch before it ships. On-screen swatches are indicative, and paint that has faded or been resprayed can drift from the factory color. For a guaranteed match, send us a sample and we match to it β€” see the color match guarantee.

Is the color match guaranteed?

Yes β€” when you send us a sample. Mail us a painted part from the car (a fuel door, a mirror cap, a chip) and we match the paint to it and check it against your sample before it ships. If the mix doesn't match your sample, we re-mix it and ship it again free. Orders mixed from a paint code alone follow the factory formula, which can differ from paint that has faded or been resprayed, so they aren't covered β€” spray a test card before you paint. Should I pick 1K basecoat or 2K single-stage?

1K basecoat is the factory-style route: blend-friendly, then topcoat with clear for gloss and UV protection. 2K single-stage has the hardener built in β€” spray and done β€” and shrugs off fuel and chemicals. Recreating the OEM look on a visible panel? Go 1K plus clear.

How much paint do I need?

A door ding or bumper corner: one 6.7 oz aerosol. One can covers about 2 to 3 sq ft in two coats, so a fender takes three or four cans, a door four to six and a hood six to nine. Spraying with a gun, one quart, the smallest size we mix, covers a panel in two coats. Still unsure? Run it through our coverage calculator.

Can you get my color from the VIN?

Not directly β€” a VIN identifies your year, make and model, but the paint code isn't encoded in it. Use the VIN tab to narrow the list, then confirm the code on your door-jamb sticker (we show you where to look).

When does custom-mixed paint ship?

Every can is mixed fresh to your code in South San Francisco and spray-out tested, and it ships within 2 business days.

Why do tricoat (3-stage) colors come as two cans?

A factory tricoat β€” Blizzard Pearl (070), for example β€” gets its depth from two separate components: a color basecoat, then a translucent pearl mid-coat sprayed over it. They can't be combined in one can, so we supply both, each mixed for your exact code, and you finish with clear. The finder prices and adds the full 2-can set automatically.

Do some colors cost more to mix?

A few do, and the price shows it before you add to cart. We price each color from its own formula: the toners the mix actually takes. Most colors mix at the standard rate; a formula on costlier toners runs 15% more, and the few on the most expensive toners run 20% more. Tri-coats are a two-can set, base plus pearl mid-coat.
